Break in the Action

Wow, I really and truly suck at this blog thing, don’t I? I swore I’d be better at updating, but I think the problem is I rarely feel like I have something to say that’s of such importance you might be interested in it, too. I just realized it has been over a month since my last post. It’s almost March, for crying out loud! Where have I been? I’m sorry to have given you no reason to visit my site on a regular basis. That’s just bad business, isn’t it?

Note to self: must update blogs more often. Once every 45 days is not often enough.

So, I’ve been working hard on this Writing Friday and decided I needed to take a break and just chat for a few minutes, try to empty my head a bit. I’m feeling a little clogged up.

It’s been snowing like crazy since last night. It’s that pretty, fluffy stuff now, rather than the back-breaking heart attack snow that we all had to shovel at 6am. They said it was going to let up this morning, but you know how those weather forecasts go: it’s now 3:30pm and it’s still snowing steadily. I think I’m going to head outside for the fourth time today and give the driveway one last shoveling before Bonnie comes home from work. If my back will allow it. Not sure what’s going on there. It’s bothered me on two separate days this week, first on one side, then the other. Definitely a muscle pain, not nerve pain like when I slipped a disk, so I’m not worried, only annoyed. Frankly, I think I’m just getting old. It’s all down hill after forty, let me tell you. Yikes.

The new novel is coming along. The working title is Seasons. I’m not ready to talk about the plot yet, though. I’m only about a dozen pages in and it still feels choppy and incomplete to me, as my projects always do at first. Why can’t I remember these facts? Why do I have to e-mail my writer friends with pleading notes that say, “Help! My new novel sucks toilet water!” only to have my writer friends write me back and remind me that I always say that in the beginning? What’s wrong with my brain that I can’t remember that from one project to the next? Is that because I’m over forty, too? Anyway, once I feel things start to smooth out, I’ll be ready to post a synopsis for Seasons. I know a lot of you have asked what it’s about. Just sit tight for me, okay? I’ll have a report soon.

And a new blog. I swear to god.

My shovel is calling…welcome to Upstate New York.
